British pop/rock icon Sting will release a brand new album this September, his first full, original LP for 10 years.
Though he released a couple of albums in recent years, 2003’s ‘Sacred Love’ is the last record featuring original tracks written by the star - but this September, he’ll be treating fans to a collection of brand new tracks entitled ‘The Last Ship’.
‘The Last Ship’ is a musical that Sting has been working on, and it’s been suggested that it may be appearing on Broadway by 2014. The record itself is believed to feature a number of tracks that we’ll be seeing performed in the musical too.
Sting has been working on the new album for three years, while he’s been working on the musical for several - it’s said to be inspired by his record ‘The Soul Cages’, and is set in a shipyard near Walsall in England.
According to Rolling Stone, Sting has worked with the likes of John Logan - the writer of Adele’s James Bond soundtrack hit ‘Skyfall’ - and playwright Brian Yorkey, while the play itself will be directed by ‘Wicked’ and ‘Other Desert Cities’ man Joe Mantello.
