Lostprophets Frontman Ian Watkins To Stand Sex Offence Trial In November

Thursday, 06 June 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

The trial of Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins will kick off in November, according to reports from WalesOnline.

The world-famous singer will stand accused of a number of sexual offence charges - which includes two counts of raping a baby, one count of conspiracy to rape a one year-old baby, one count of conspiracy to sexually assault a child, producing, possessing, and distributing indecent images of children - and even possessing extreme animal pornography.

At a hearing earlier today (where Watkins once again appeared by video link from Parc Prison in Bridgend), Judge Eleri Rees set a November 25th date for the trial to begin, and informed Watkins that he’d be facing a trial that could potentially last up to four weeks. Two women also involved in the case will also stand trial.

In total, Watkins faces 24 separate charges - all sex offences - and in court earlier this week, he denied all of them - living up to his earlier promises that he will not plead guilty. The Welshman said in a statement earlier this year:

“Mr Watkins furiously denies all of the charges and allegations made. He intends to fight to the bitter end to clear his name. He wishes to thank the fans, family and friends for the constant love and support they have given and continue to give throughout this testing time.”

Watkins has reportedly released another a statement since the hearing earlier this week, in which he claims that he’ll continue to try and clear his name of the charges, which are believed to date to as far back as 2007.
