Tyler The Creator Faces Australian Protestors

Thursday, 06 June 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Tyler, the Creator is no stranger to controversy - if you know who the rapper is, you’ve probably heard at least one or two stories about him coming under fire for something, be it his wild on-stage antics, or his lewd lyrics. So, it’s almost no surprise that he’s attracted a buttload of protesters on his tour of Australia!

Yup, the star and his music have caused so much ruckus Down-Under that he’s seen loads of protesters ranging from Aussie female rights group Collective Shout to Alex Hawke - an Australian politician - calling for the country’s prime-minister Julia Gillard to revoke his visa. It’s even reportedly led to police ‘shutting down’ a public appearance by Tyler.

The protesters are absolutely livid that he’s been allowed into the country to perform his music, which they deem to be a ‘complete disgrace’. Feminist activists Collective Shout have even set-up a petition calling for him to be booted out, because they say his music features ‘graphic descriptions of rape and violence against women’.

Meanwhile, politician Hawke has written to PM Gillard, saying:

“Allowing this man a visa to promote his misogyny to audiences, including children, is a complete disgrace and an absolute insult to all of us and to women in particular.”

Tyler himself has been posting about the protests via Twitter - check out his tweets below:
