Amy Winehouse Killed By Bulimia Not Drink, Says Brother Alex

Monday, 24 June 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Late soul star Amy Winehouse was killed by bulimia and not drink or drugs, according to her brother Alex.

Winehouse passed away back in 2011, after suffering what has since been confirmed as accidental alcohol poisoning.

But her brother, Alex Winehouse, has claimed that although she had been drinking at the time of her death, it was actually eating disorder bulimia that weakened and killed her. Winehouse had suffered from it since she was 17.

Alex told The Observer:

“[Bulimia] left her weaker, and more susceptible. She would have died eventually, the way she was going, but what really killed her was the bulimia. Had she not have had an eating disorder, she would have been physically stronger.”

He continued on to talk about the problem itself, and told the paper:

“[Her friends] were all doing it. They'd put loads of rich sauces on their food, scarf it down and throw it up. They stopped doing it, but Amy never really stopped. We all knew she was doing it but it's almost impossible [to tackle], especially if you're not talking about it.”
