Rare David Bowie Radio Show To Be Broadcast On BBC 6Music

Tuesday, 22 October 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

A 15-minute radio show recorded by David Bowie in 1973 is set to be broadcast on BBC Radio 6 Music on October 23.

The programme was originally recorded when Bowie was promoting his covers album ‘Pin Ups’, but never made it to air. It was rediscovered by Nigel Reeve - who’s in charge of Bowie’s back-catalogue - and will finally be given a play on BBC Radio 6 Music.

The tape features Bowie talking about the album and London’s music scene, as well as tracks from the record. Reeve said it was a ‘jaw-dropping moment’ to listen to it for the first time. He told the BBC:

“I discovered it during some research several years ago. It was in an old tape vault on 1/4" tape with simply the words 'Radio Show' written on it. This is such a rare find. No-one knew of its existence, apart from David and Ken [Scott, the album and radio show's producer]. To play it for the first time was quite simply a jaw-dropping moment.”

BBC Radio 6 Music will broadcast clips of the programme throughout the day tomorrow, starting with Shaun Keaveny's Breakfast Show at 9:30am and running through Lauren Laverne, Radcliffe and Maconie, Steve Lamacq, and Marc Riley’s shows later in the day. You’ll also be able to hear it in full on BBC iPlayer until midnight on October 27. Will you be tuning in? Leave us a comment in the box below!
