Play The Hits: Stereoboard's V Festival Setlist

Tuesday, 12 August 2014 Written by Gavin Rees

V Festival returns this weekend, with the pop-rock behemoth once again set to ride roughshod over Hylands Park in Essex and Weston Park, Staffordshire for three days of huge names, big hits and, doubtless, some neon face paint too.

Names atop the marquee this year include the Killers, Paolo Nutini and Ed Sheeran, while lurking down the bill are the likes of Sam Smith, Elbow, Manic Street Preachers and Katy B. There’s plenty to choose from, so we’ve opted to take some of that decision-making pressure off your shoulders with our latest festival setlist.

Justin Timberlake - Virgin Media Stage (Essex/Saturday, Staffordshire/Sunday)

Is it a cop out to choose a headliner? Maybe. But such is Timberlake’s star wattage that you’d be a fool to miss him. Taken as a whole, ‘The 20/20 Experience’ was a dud, but give the man a stage and a crowd to perform to and he’s still pretty much unbeatable.

Blondie - MTV Stage (Essex/Saturday, Staffordshire/Sunday)

If Clem Burke is to be believed, then Blondie could be nearing the end of the road as a touring band. If that’s not the push you need to catch this set, then remember that they’ve put out enough pop classics to dwarf just about every other act on this year’s bill.

Janelle Monáe - Arena Stage (Essex/Saturday, Staffordshire/Sunday)

It’s getting on for a year since the release of ‘The Electric Lady’ and time hasn’t dimmed its luminous appeal. Cementing Monae as an artist of rare imagination, the record landed twin blows in that it was singularly ambitious and absolutely packed with funk licks and future-soul flourishes. This will be a highlight.

Foxes - Arena Stage (Essex/Saturday, Staffordshire/Sunday)

The search for the next big thing will never stop. Foxes’ debut, ‘Glorious’, may not have sent her into the stratosphere but it turned in a respectable showing, with plenty of potential on display. Louisa Rose Allen deals in the sort of arena-levelling ballads that make up Katy Perry’s day-to-day and she’s definitely worth checking out if that’s your thing.

Howling Bells - Future Stage (Staffordshire/Saturday, Essex/Sunday)

The last few years have been a mixed bag for Howling Bells, but ‘Heartstrings’, which was released in June, showed that on top form they are a force to be reckoned with. Juanita Stein’s melodies were backed by rugged guitars and a dark heart and their set could prove to be a hidden gem.

V Festival Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows:
