Conor Oberst To Release New Solo Album 'Ruminations' In October

Wednesday, 03 August 2016 Written by Laura Johnson

Conor Oberst will release a new solo album this autumn.

'Ruminations' is due to arrive on October 14 via Nonesuch and will follow up 2014's 'Upside Down Mountain'. The LP was recorded in 48 hours at ARC, the studio he built with Bright Eyes bandmate Mike Mogis.

We last heard from Oberst when he reformed his punk band Desaparecidos last year and released 'Payola', their first album in 13 years. Discussing his return to his hometown, Omaha, and the inspiration for the new material, Oberst said:

"I wasn't expecting to write a record. I honestly wasn't expecting to do much of anything. Winter in Omaha can have a paralyzing effect on a person but in this case it worked in my favour. I was just staying up late every night playing piano and watching the snow pile up outside the window. Next thing I knew I had burned through all the firewood in the garage and had more than enough songs for a record. I recorded them quick to get them down but then it just felt right to leave them alone."

Check out the tracklisting and artwork for 'Ruminations' below.

  1. Tachycardia
  2. Barbary Coast (Later)
