George Michael Dies Aged 53

Sunday, 25 December 2016 Written by Huw Baines

George Michael has died aged 53.

The vocalist, who rose to fame with pop duo Wham! before embarking on a successful solo career with 'Faith' in 1987, passed away at home, his publicist confirmed.

The news was announced in a short statement: "It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period. The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."

Recently, Michael had been working on a documentary film, Freedom, which was set for release in March 2017.
