Kenny Wayne Shepherd Shares New Track Nothing But The Night

Monday, 03 July 2017 Written by Jon Stickler

Kenny Wayne Shepherd has revealed a new track, Nothing But The Night, taken from his upcoming album 'Lay It On Down'.

The song is the second to be shared from the record, which is out in the UK and Europe on July 21 via Provogue/Mascot Label Group, following Baby Got Gone which arrived in May. Speaking about the track's new sound, Shepherd said:

"Blazing guitar, rocking grooves, aggressive playing and stuff. But I wanted there to be a variety of textures and grooves and feelings and emotions conveyed through this record. So Nothing But The Night, doesn’t sound like any other song we’ve ever recorded. It’s a smoky, vibey kind of song."

Shepherd will celebrate the release with a date at the Picturedrome in Holmfirth on July 29 before his headline set on the Country Outlaw Stage at Ramblin' Man Fair the following day.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows

Sun July 30 2017 - HOLMFIRTH Holmfirth Picturedrome

When Kenny Wayne Shepherd began writing for ‘Lay It On Down’, his eighth 'solo' record, his aim was low on ambiguity and high on ambition. He wanted to put the emphasis on songwriting and produce his best music to date. After the dust settles around this splendid concoction of melodically lustrous, bluesy rock ‘n’ roll, one thought immediately leaps to mind: mission accomplished.

Cut Kenny Wayne Shepherd and he’ll bleed blue. Well, more specifically he’ll bleed the blues. The Louisiana native is a diehard. He has lived and breathed the genre since he helped to reinvigorate it in the mid-90s after bursting onto the block with a blistering sound that, although referencing the greats, gave the blues a youthful vibrancy and crossover appeal it badly needed.

To outsiders, it often seems that any fresh faced group who ‘suddenly’ arrive on the scene with a bang, and subsequently reap the rewards their newfound status commands, have had it easy and somehow fluked their way out of obscurity. But before hit singles and worldwide tours, there often lies a story of hard graft, setbacks and intense frustration, making that eventual breakthrough taste even sweeter.
