Sŵn Festival Announce New Event Off // Kilter

Wednesday, 02 August 2017 Written by Laura Johnson

Sŵn have teamed up with the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama for a new event.

off // kilter is described as a more experimental affair than the rest of the festival and will take over the Royal Welsh College on October 7, with Cotton Wolf, Rhain, Ed Dowie, Richard Dawson and Vorhees set to perform.

Artists will be placed throughout the building, with the audience encouraged to move around to explore. Promoter and Sŵn co-founder, John Rostron said:

“With this year's new format for Sŵn, we wanted to create events that were not previously possible within the confines of one weekend and limited venues and audience.

For the first time, we’re bringing a group of artists you wouldn’t necessarily expect to find at the Royal Welsh College. Performances will alternate between spaces so you can come and watch all half dozen. It’s a more off kilter version of Sŵn, hence the name. We want people to go on a journey through electronics, sonics and voice with some remarkable talent in a beautiful building."

Penny King, Head of Creative Programming at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, added:

“We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Sŵn to bring off // kilter to life this autumn. The line-
up is fantastic and we’re really looking forward to these exceptional artists performing in our beautiful spaces.

The College is passionate about supporting and presenting the next generation of new talent, and off // kilter
will offer those with a sense of adventure new musical experiences that they wouldn’t necessarily expect from Sŵn Festival...or us!”

Tickets for off // kilter are on sale now for £20. Head here for more details.

This year Sŵn festival will return with a new format, encompassing a month long series of shows staged across Wales this autumn and incorporating the Welsh Music Prize, with things getting underway when the Skints play Swansea’s Sin City on September 22.

A string of Cardiff dates will then follow, with Songhoy Blues and the Amazons playing the Tramshed, This is the Kit taking over the Globe and Clean Cut Kid, Jen Cloher and Aquilo pitching up at Clwb Ifor Bach.
