You Me At Six Share Wolf Of Wall Street-Inspired Video For 3AM

Thursday, 02 August 2018 Written by Laura Johnson

You Me At Six have released a cinematic video for 3AM.

The track was one of two shared when the band announced their new album, 'VI', in June, alongside Fast Forward. The follow up to last year's 'Night People' is due out on October 5 via AWAL imprint Underdog Records.

The song's video was directed by Dan Broadley and, as vocalist Josh Franceschi explains below, inspired by the Wolf of Wall Street film. It is split into three acts: 'Act I: Expection', 'Act II: Reality' and 'Act III: The Peak', and finds the frontman drunkenly navigating his way through a night out. Franceschi said:

“The idea came from watching Wolf Of Wall Street. In the film there is a scene where the main protagonist (Leonardo DiCaprio) has a split reality when under the influence of what he believes to be true and what is actually true. That just resonated with us. I worked quite closely with Dan Broadley (Director) as I found myself doing a lot of 'acting' in this video. It was new, and a challenge, but he gave me the confidence to embrace it and also have the freedom to go off script.”

Broadley also commented:

"I remember really early on in the process, we had this unhinged creative conversation about what we all wanted this video to be and how we wanted to push the boundaries of what people expected of You Me At Six. I recalled this amazing scene in The Wolf Of Wall Street where it shows Leo making it back home in his Lamborghini whilst totally off his head on drugs, however it later reveals what really happened... and the journey didn't go as well as he remembered. I loved that idea and wanted to adapt it to a 'night out' scenario where Josh plays this bouncy alter-ego of himself. I think a highlight was persuading the guys to learn a full dance routine to perform at the climax of the song...”

The band will tour the UK later this year, mixing ‘Take Off Your Colours’ anniversary dates with regular shows in support of their new LP. Due to demand, they recently added more anniversary dates to their schedule, a further stop at the O2 Academy Brixton on December 3 among them, along with new stops in Leeds, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Sheffield, Norwich and Nottingham. Tickets are on sale at 9am on August 3.

While Paul Simon may not be as prolific as Bob Dylan (38 solo albums) or Van Morrison (39), he might beat both artists in terms of consistent quality. Records like ‘Rhythm of the Saints’, released in 1990, and 2016’ s ‘Surprise’ often matched the brilliance of his work with Art Garfunkel, but may have been overlooked due to ageism within pop music.

Burton once again on hand, they manage to accomplish a giant leap forward without ever losing sight of who they are.
