Boy Azooga Take Home Welsh Music Prize 2018 For '1, 2, Kung Fu!'

Boy Azooga have won the Welsh Music Prize for their debut album, '1,2, Kung Fu!'.

Led by Davey Newington, the Cardiff band saw off competition from Manic Street Preachers, Gruff Rhys, Gwenno, Mellt, Seazoo, Eugene Capper and Rhodri Brooks, Toby Hay, Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita, Bryde, Astroid Boys, and Alex Dingley to succeed last year’s winner, the Gentle Good, who received the gong for 'Ruins/Adfeilion'.

Boy Azooga accepted the award from Huw Stephens at the Coal Exchange in Cardiff. Check out Newington's acceptance speech below and head here to check out our interview with him prior to the release of the record.

Boy Azooga were recently among the first 50 acts to be announced for Focus Wales 2019, the multi-venue festival which will return to Wrexham in North Wales next spring.
