Rick Wakeman Announces The Grumpy Old Christmas Show Tour

Thursday, 30 May 2019 Written by Jon Stickler

Rick Wakeman will bring together music and funny anecdotes on The Grumpy Old Christmas Show Tour later this year.

The former Yes keyboardist will kick off the run on December 6 at London's Cadogan Hall before heading to Watford, Birmingham, Harrogate, Buxton, Poole, Liverpool, and Manchester, wrapping up at the Royal Northern College of Music on December 19.

Each night, Wakeman will perform songs from Yes's back catalogue, as well as tracks by David Bowie, the Beatles and more. There will also be chat and funny stories from throughout his career. Wakeman said:

"It's a simple choice. Christmas concerts or traipsing round the shops. No contest, really! Seriously, it's just so lovely to do some Christmas shows. It’s such a great time of year."

Prior to the tour, Wakeman will celebrate his 70th birthday with two performances of 'Journey To The Centre Of The Earth' in London. He'll perform his third album for the final time in the UK on June 13 and 14 at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall.

He'll be accompanied by his band, the English Rock Ensemble, as well as the Orion Orchestra and the English Chamber Choir. There'll also be a special guest appearance by Alfie Boe.
