Kae Tempest Joins EYE Cymru Event Series At Cardiff Castle

Kae Tempest has been announced for EYE Cymru, an immersive event series combining laser art and music.
Cardiff Castle will play host to the EYE Cymru world premiere on October 14, with live performances set to take place on the weekends up until October 31. Tempest will collaborate with light artist Chris Levine for a live session across the last weekend of the month, following contributions from Nick Mulvey and Gruff Rhys. Tempest said:
"I love what Chris Levine has dreamt up for EYE Cymru, the other artists involved are people I respect and admire deeply and I back the whole ethos, as I understand it; that sonic and visual frequencies affect us, impact upon us as we experience them and can be used for healing on a grand scale. When I heard Chris talk about his hopes for this project I knew I wanted to be a part of it and I was honoured to be invited to contribute. I think it will be an incredible moment and I hope people will come and connect with the work, the experience, each other and go deeply into the entire spectacle."
Nick Mulvey commented: "I’m honoured to contribute my guitar patterns for the programme’s soundtrack. For me this project is about breaking out of song-forms and going beyond, letting my music become abstracted and I love it so much. It’s also about friendship and shared sacred purpose."
Gruff Rhys added: "I’ve been working on some electronic ambient mixes of tracks from my 'Pang!' and 'Seeking New Gods' albums for about two years now with the EYE Cymru sound designer Marco Perry - we’ve reinvented tracks like Distant Snowy Peaks and I can’t wait to try them out in public in surround sound with a full pyramid of lasers - I’m also considering changing my name to Gruff-Michel Jarre for the occasion in honour of the French laser and electronics pioneer from the 1970’s who soundtracked my childhood with Oxygène."
