Peter Gabriel has shared his first new song since 2016.
Panopticom serves as the lead single of his first album of original material in 21 years, 'i/o', which is due out later in 2023, though a release date is still to be confirmed by the former Genesis singer.
Released on the first full moon of 2023, the rousing track finds the artist teaming up with musicians Brian Eno, bassist Tony Levin, drummer Manu Katché, and guitarist David Rhodes, with Eno's influence shining through among haunting synths.
It was written and produced by Gabriel, and recorded at Real World Studios in Wiltshire and The Beehive in London. The arrival of further singles from the record will correspond with the start of each future lunar phase, and each song will come with a piece of art. Panopticom is accompanied by the work Red Gravity by David Spriggs.
In November 2022, Gabriel announced his first UK and European tour in nearly a decade for 2023. The May and June dates are already on sale, with North American shows expected to be announced soon.
