The Cult's Ian Astbury And Billy Duffy Revive Death Cult For Autumn UK And Ireland Tour

Tuesday, 15 August 2023 Written by Jon Stickler

The Cult have resurrected their early moniker Death Cult for a UK and Ireland tour.

Led by vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, the band will revive their post-punk roots when celebrating the 40th anniversary of the pre-fame, darker incarnation of the group. Billed as The Cult Presents Death Cult, each show will see Astbury, Duffy and their current bandmates run through material recorded by Death Cult, the band's name before they switched to The Cult.

There'll also be songs by Astbury's pre-Death Cult project, The Southern Death Cult, as well as select cuts from The Cult's first two LPs, 1984's 'Dreamtime' and 1985's 'Love'.

Stops include Belfast, Dublin, Sheffield, Liverpool, Glasgow, Nottingham, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Norwich, Manchester and London, where they'll wrap up the run with two dates at Electric Brixton on November 20 and 21. Tickets go on general sale at 10am this Friday (August 18).

The Cult, meanwhile, will tour the US in October in support of their 2022 album 'Under The Midnight Sun'.
