JOHN Post New Single Riddley Scott Walker Featuring Barry Adamson, Announce 2024 UK Tour

JOHN have released a new single called Riddley Scott Walker.
Inspired by the Russell Hoban science fiction novel Riddley Walker, it serves as the latest preview of John Newton and Johnny Healey's fourth album, 'A Life Diagrammatic', which is built on themes of industrial fallout and how technology can have hazardous effects on the future.
Over a pummelling guitar riff and drum beat, Newton's angry and energetic vocals are accompanied by a guest verse from former Bad Seed and Magazine man Barry Adamson. Newton commented:
"We currently rehearse next to the ramshackle of an industrial port on the south coast, and we’ve always drawn inspiration from the sites and sounds of this industrial fallout. There’s very deliberate signposts of this throughout the album, whether that be the field recordings of a demolition sequenced into a mesmerizing rhythm or the inconsistency of a signal-bound phone conversation.
"Having identified that visual references as just as important as audible ones, we really wanted to continue driving the cinematic leanings of our music. This is something that has steadily grown throughout our back catalogue and was a key reason why we felt it relevant to collaborate with other cinematically-inclined individuals such as Simon Pegg and Barry Adamson."
"His album 'Moss Side Story' is self-described as the score to an imaginary film, and this is often how we feel about the music that we both enjoy," added Newton about Adamson. "It’s great to have someone who understands a similarly cinematic approach to music, having also created music for David Lynch's Lost Highway."
Slated to arrive on September 22 via Brace Yourself and Pets Care Records, the record will also feature the previously shared cuts Trauma Mosaic, Service Stationed and The Common Cold. The duo will follow up its release with previously scheduled UK and North American tour dates this autumn and winter.
JOHN have also lined up a fresh round of UK shows between February 9 and March 1, 2024, with stops confirmed in Bournemouth, Leeds, Brighton, Nottingham, London and Reading. Tickets for those gigs go on general sale at 10am on Thursday (August 24).
