Johnny Marr has shared a new song.
Ophelia is the second single to be lifted from his new album 'The Age Of Everything', due out on October 2 via BMG. The guitar-driven alt-rock track is inspired by the Shakespeare character of the same name, he explained:
“The character of Ophelia is confounding but there's a real nobility and strength which reminds me of someone in my life. So the name just stuck and sounded like a song. I thought about the character and I saw quite a few similarities with the Ophelia. As a songwriter, sometimes these things happen where it just sings really well over the track and you go with it. It turned out right.”
The former Smiths guitarist turned solo artist previously teased the follow-up to 2022's 'Fever Dreams Pt 1-4' with its opener Spin.
Earlier this week, Marr's autumn London show at the OVO Arena Wembley was postponed, with the venue advising the date needs to be rescheduled and, "All tickets will be automatically refunded through the original point of purchase." There has not been any comment from Marr.
