Laufey Announces Third Album 'A Matter Of Time' With New Single Tough Luck

Laufey has announced her third studio album.
The Icelandic-Chinese artist will release 'A Matter of Time' through Vingolf Recordings/AWAL on August 22. It follows up 2023's Grammy-winning 'Bewitched', a 2024 reissue titled 'Bewitched: The Goddess Edition', and a concert film and live album, 'A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl', from the same year. She first teased the new record in early April with the introspective romantic ballad Silver Lining.
Created alongside co-producers Spencer Stewart, who helmed her first two albums, and The National's Aaron Dessner, whose résumé includes work with Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, 'A Matter of Time' finds the singer-songwriter and musician reflecting on the "ugly and beautiful" sides of life and love. In an Instagram post confirming the record, she wrote:
"I've taken my diary and turned it into an album of songs, delving into the whole range of emotions — from the beautiful to the ugly — that one experiences as life and love unfold in time."
To coincide with the announcement, Laufey has shared a new single, Tough Luck, which introduces a more assertive and unrestrained side to her sound. "Tough Luck is a fiery song about love gone wrong," she explained. "I wanted to reveal an angrier side of myself—a side that this unfortunate relationship brought out in me."
Laufey will play shows in Mexico and Brazil later this month, before a series of US orchestral performances in July and August. Tickets are on sale now.
