Due to demand, The Who have added an extra Chicago date to The Song Is Over Tour.
The duo of Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend (pictured) will double up at the United Center on September 9, two days following their previously confirmed stop at the venue. Tickets for the new date go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday (May 23).
The pair will perform hits from across their near six-decade career during the farewell trek, which is named after the British band's 1971 track. It will begin with a show at the Amerant Bank Arena in Florida on August 16, and conclude at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on September 28.
Alongside the new date, they've also confirmed the special guests that will be joining them on the run. Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters will open in Sunrise and Newark, ZZ Ward in Philadelphia, Booker T. Jones in Atlantic City, and The Joe Perry Project in Boston and Los Angeles (Sep 17).
Wantagh and New York will see Feist open, Tom Cochrane joins in Toronto, Joe Bonamassa in Chicago, and Candlebox in Mountain View, Vancouver and Seattle, with Billy Idol opening the tour's last show in Las Vegas. Tickets for all previously announced dates are on sale now.
The Who formed in the 1960s with a line-up comprising lead singer Daltrey, guitarist and vocalist Townshend, drummer Keith Moon, who died in 1978, and bass guitarist John Entwistle, who passed away in 2002.
The band released 'WHO', their first studio album in 13 years, back in 2019. More recently, in 2023 they put out a live LP, 'The Who With Orchestra Live At Wembley'. and this April put out 'The Best Of' collection.
Daltrey and Townshend recently announced that drummer Zak Starkey was being replaced by Scott Devours. In a statement on social media, they said:
"The Who are heading for retirement, whereas Zak is 20 years younger and has a great future with his new band and other exciting projects. He needs to devote all his energy into making it all a success . We both wish him all the luck in the world.
"Scott Devours – Who fans will know him from Roger’s solo shows – will be replacing Zak. We hope all our fans will welcome him."
Although the statement seems as though the musicians parted on good terms, Starkey has shared a lengthy statement on Instagram that gives more context, stating he was fired and did not walk away from the band.
