RAYE is to become a recipient of an Ivors Academy Honour.
The British vocalist and songwriter will be the first to receive an award for her efforts in improving conditions for songwriters and composers. The two-time Ivor Novello Award winner and seven-time BRIT recipient previously urged the industry to fairly compensate artists for their work on songs.
News of the award comes after the UK government confirmed the introduction of a £75 daily allowance, plus travel and food expenses, for songwriters and session musicians. Roberto Neri, Chief Executive of The Ivors Academy, commented:
"An incredible multi award-winning artist, Raye is the one of the most gifted songwriters of her generation and always gives full respect and voice to fellow writers. She has consistently called for better pay and greater recognition for songwriters, championing structural change to protect the talent behind the music we love. We’re proud to honour her with this well-deserved recognition."
The first Ivors Academy Honours event will be held on October 2 at the InterContinental London Park Lane hotel.
The South London artist recently teamed up with Mark Ronson for two tracks, Suzanne and Grandma Calls The Boy Bad News, the latter featuring on the soundtrack for the new F1 film.
She'll play the biggest Irish show of her career at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin on August 22, before headlining All Points East at London's Victoria Park the next day. She'll also play Newport Jazz Festival and headline Boardmasters earlier that month.
RAYE released her debut album, 'My 21st Century Blues', in 2023. However, the follow-up has been delayed after the singer revealed on social media last October that her car had been stolen, with her songwriting books in the boot.
