Ian McKellen will make a rare return to the stage early next year with two intimate performances reflecting on his life in theatre.
He has arranged two special fundraising shows, billed as Stories, Stage & Shakespeare, at the Grade II-listed Richmond Theatre in London on January 10 and 11.
McKellen is one of Britain's greatest actors, famous for iconic fantasy roles such as Gandalf in The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies and the villain Magneto in the X-Men films, as well as acclaimed performances as Richard III, King Lear, and Sherlock Holmes in Mr. Holmes.
Each evening will combine conversation with performance, raising funds for the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond. All proceeds will go to supporting its productions, community and education programmes, as well as its upcoming capital project. McKellen said:
"The Orange Tree is a wonderfully small, intimate theatre where exciting productions happen. They’re renovating the front of house to get rid of all those dreadful stairs. So, I wanted to help fundraise for not only that, but their productions and work outside of the theatre with schools."
Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Friday (December 19).
Ian McKellen Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows
Sat January 10 2026 - LONDON Richmond Theatre
Sun January 11 2026 - LONDON Richmond Theatre
