Jalen Ngonda Announces Second Album 'Doctrine of Love', Confirms Autumn UK & European Tour

Jalen Ngonda has announced his new album and a UK and European tour to support it.
The follow-up to 2023's 'Come Around and Love Me' is called 'Doctrine Of Love' and will be released on June 5 via Daptone Records. As a preview, he's shared the uplifting and soulful title track. Introducing it, he said:
“I wrote that track when I was trying to do anything to get out of the studio. I was listening to a lot of James Brown at the time and that was an inspiration. ‘Doctrine’ to me was a word no-one ever uses. I took it to be like a certificate, the ‘Certificate of Love’ - look, I think maybe I meant ‘doctorate’, but we wrote it and recorded it and now it's a whole thing. I just write the song. The listener can interpret it however they want.”
Expanding on how soul is at the heart of everything he creates, he continued: "It's no exaggeration to say that every day of my life I wish I would wake up in 1964 in Detroit recording with the Funk Brothers. But that's not my life. So what I can do is express my thoughts and my fascination with that sound and period and just be an artist. The Doctrine Of Love holds that every thought and action should be guided first by compassion for others, because love is the highest measure of human worth.”
The American singer and songwriter from Maryland will support the record with an Australia and New Zealand tour that kicked off on February 28 at Electric Avenue in Christchurch, New Zealand and continues in Perth tomorrow (March 4). Following that, he'll tour the UK and Europe in the spring and summer, playing headline shows and festivals, including sets at Mad Cool in Madrid and Latitude in Suffolk.
He's also announced a new headline European tour for the autumn, which features UK stops in Bristol, Bournemouth, London, Leeds, Glasgow and Manchester between October 24 and November 3. Support will come from special guest Brooke Combe.
Tickets for the new UK and European dates go on general sale at 10am GMT on March 13. All other dates are on sale now.
