Produced by Oscar Scheller, whose previous credits include PinkPantheress and Lily Allen, the atmospheric, electronic-infused R&B track marks the start of a new era for the American singer-songwriter, who describes the song as being about "what it feels like to exist in this climate — the weight of being expected to witness, absorb, and speak truth at a time when the world feels like it's unraveling." She added:
"That's a particular kind of burden Black women know intimately. This song doesn't offer answers, it just refuses to look away. Co-writing it with my best friend Janiva Ellis, hearing Oscar's production give it shape, and then watching 91 Rules bring that tension to life visually feels like the beginning of a much larger conversation I'm ready to have."

Kelela released her most recent studio album, and second overall, 'Raven', in 2023, which was followed by a remix edition in early 2024. Last year, she dropped the live album 'In The Blue Light', recorded during her intimate residency at New York City's legendary Blue Note jazz club in 2024.
