Mari Mathias will release her sophomore album this Friday.
'Cyfarwydd' (meaning "familiar") will arrive through Tarian Records tomorrow (April 17) and sees the Welsh folk artist explore Welsh folklore and storytelling across 11 songs about transformation, magic, loss and return, inspired by her upbringing and life in Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.
The album was recorded by the singer and her band at StudioOwz, a studio in a renovated chapel in the Preseli Hills near Moel Eryr and Carningli, and features the previously shared singles Y Morgen and Aderyn Pur.
Mathias, who released her debut album 'Annwn' in 2022, will support the new record with a series of theatre shows around Wales this spring, with support from Angharad Jenkins and Patrick Rimes, including an appearance at Focus Wales in Wrexham on May 7. Head here for details.
Mathias is also part of the nine-piece Welsh collective MWSOG, who released their second single Llef Hir (The Long Cry) in February. They play All Roads Festival in Glastonbury this May, where Mathias will also perform a solo set at St Benedict's Church on May 2.
