The Lanthums are back with their first new single in over a year.

Introspective yet inspiring, Vice Versa is, according to frontman Alex Moore, about identity, dependence, fear, and finding your way through life.

Co-written by Moore and Grammy-nominated musician Ian Archer, whose previous credits include Liam Gallagher, Jake Bugg and Tom Smith, the song explores, in Moore's words, "a feeling of not fully belonging in the world we’ve built around ourselves", and arrives with an emotional video helmed by longtime collaborator James Slater, premiering at 11am BST today (July 17). Moore explained:

"It came from that experience of having everything you need to survive, yet still feeling hungry for meaning, connection, and peace. The song sits between connection and alienation, between needing people deeply and fearing what we carry inside ourselves.

"Writing it with Ian down in Brighton pushed me into a much more vulnerable place creatively, and what started as a songwriting session very quickly became more like a therapy session. We spoke a lot about identity, dependence, fear and navigating life, and it ended up being probably the most open, honest and raw writing experience I’ve had in my career so far."

The song arrives ahead of the Wigan indie quartet's show supporting Richard Ashcroft at London's Alexandra Park tonight (July 17), followed by appearances at Nottingham's Splendour Festival, Kendal Calling and Reading and Leeds this summer. They'll also support Courteeners on the Manchester band's UK arena tour in the autumn.

The Lathums released their third studio album, 'Matter Does Not Define', early in 2025, followed later that year by an acoustic version of the record and their second live LP, 'Live From Robin Park'. Earlier this year, they also put out the 'Gull In The Wind' EP, a collection of b-sides from 'Matter Does Not Define'.
