Amon Amarth Announce New Album 'The Allfather Awakens', Share Opening Track Gjallarhorn

Amon Amarth have announced their 13th studio album.
The Swedish Norse-themed metallers will release 'The Allfather Awakens' through Metal Blade Records on October 2. It opens a new chapter with Oden, the Norse god of war, wisdom, death, magic and poetry, continuing to inspire the band's lyrics across 10 songs about conflict and sacrifice.
The project marks a change in the band's songwriting process, with tracks written individually while touring and recorded during two sessions at producer Jacob Hansen's studio in Denmark. Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen explained:
"We worked on one song at a time and made each song as good as possible. Then we recorded one song at a time until each track was totally finished--drums, guitars, and vocals. Only then did we start on the next one."
Alongside the news, the band have shared a new single, the record's opener Gjallarhorn, which serves up their classic roaring guitar riffs and a driving, catchy chorus, contrasting with their earlier stripped back acoustic track Upphaf. The album will also include last year's single We Rule The Waves, which marked their first new music since their 2022 studio album, 'The Great Heathen Army'.
Amon Amarth will support the new record with the previously scheduled The Allfather Awakens Tour across Europe and the UK this autumn. The shows will feature a new stage production, with support from Swedish bands Orbit Culture and Soilwork. Tickets are on sale now.
Since their last album, Amon Amarth released a special four-track EP 'Heidrun' in 2023, featuring a newly remixed version of the single plus two live tracks and a "goat remix" version of Heidrun featuring actual goat vocals.
