Katie Gregson-Macleod Announces Debut Album 'Albatross' With New Single Nothing Really Changes

Thursday, 13 August 2026 Written by Jon Stickler

Katie Gregson-Macleod has laid out plans for her long-awaited debut album.

The Scottish musician will release 'Albatross' through Matt Maltese's label Last Recordings on Earth on November 6, following last summer's 'Love Me Too Well, I'll Retire Early' EP.

The album's title comes from Samuel Taylor Coleridge's famous poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner — in which the albatross represents both a blessing and a curse — and follows a period of change for the singer-songwriter, who left her former label, returned home to the Scottish Highlands and took a fresh approach to songwriting.

Alongside the announcement, Gregson-Macleod has shared the album's reflective opening track, Nothing Really Changes, one of the last songs she wrote for the project, which builds from fingerpicked acoustic guitar into a soaring arrangement, complete with a guitar solo from Matthew Field. She explained:

"Nothing Really Changes serves as the record's proper 'opening number' and also its narrative conclusion. Writing the album, this song represented the putting-down-of-the-pen for me. It became as cathartic sonically as it had felt to write. Rather than attempt to make sense of anything, Nothing Really Changes just sits back and observes it. The conclusion: it always does."

The album will also include Gregson-Macleod's previous single, I Don't Think Of Kissing You, which dropped in June.

Gregson-Macleod will perform a series of intimate UK shows over the coming weeks, featuring support from Bonnie Kemplay.
