Noel Gallagher Plays First Performance Of Solo Career

The former Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher has made his first solo appearance since leaving the Manchester band.

After one final row with band frontman and brother Liam Gallagher, songwriter Noel Gallagher left behind Oasis and almost straight away started work on plans for a solo career. The guitarist had previously played a live show at the Royal Albert Hall, and had often spoken of a lot of material he had stored away.

Starting off his solo career, Noel Gallagher recently confirmed that he will be performing just two shows this year. Noel scheduled the two shows as part of the Teenage Cancer Trust, taking over the Royal Albert Hall with a whole host of other artists.

Last night, Thursday 25th March, Noel Gallagher played his first show since going solo. Despite fans calling for new material throughout, Noel kept his cards close to his chest and played several tracks from the Oasis back catalogue as well as a number of popular B-sides along with the usual classics.

Joined by former Oasis band mate Gem Archer on second guitar, also on stage was keyboard player Jay Darlington and a drummer. The basic set up was completed by an eight piece all female orchestra and the Crouch End Choir.

Taking to the stage accompained by huge cheers, Noel Gallagher started off with a simple “Hello” before firing straight into a - some would say appropriate - version of ‘(It’s Good) To Be Free’. Having played ‘Don’t Go Away’ Noel Gallagher commented saying, "I don't know if you've noticed - this is exactly the same set I played two years ago. But it's OK - I'm wearing different clothes."

Closing the set with 1994 ‘Whatever’ the songwriter wrapped things up with an encore featuring ‘The Masterplan’, ‘Married With Children’ and of course ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’.

Noel Gallagher played:

'(It's Good) To Be Free'
'Talk Tonight'
'Fade Away'
'Cast No Shadow'
'Half The World Away'
'Don't Go Away'
'The Importance Of Being Idle'
'Listen Up'
'Sad Song'
'Wonderwall'
'Rockin' Chair'
'Slide Away'
'Digsy's Dinner'
'Whatever'
'The Masteplan'
'Married With Children'
'Don't Look Back In Anger'
