The Funk and Soul Weekender is a music festival held in Margate.
Created by Soundcrash, the event first took place in 2017, showcasing some of the most exciting acts in brass, hip hop, soul, tropical, Afrobeats, world music, disco, house and everything in-between. In the past, the festival has hosted performances from the likes of Maribou State, Norman Jay MBE, Gilles Peterson, Yazmin Lacey, Kool & The Gang, Sister Sledge, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Ezra Collective, The Wailers and many more. In addition to the musical line up, the festival offers an extensive, jam-packed timetable of extra activities including record fairs, film screenings and explorative talks, as well as wellness & soul meditation, dance classes and the original disco yoga experience. All this can be found alongside secret parties, cabaret, and the best in soul food and craft beer. The Funk & Soul Weekender will return to Dreamland, Margate in July 2024, featuring headliners Nile Rodgers & CHIC, along with Craig Charles, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Norman Jay and many more.
