Grumpy Old Women is a BBC 2 series, continuing in the same vein as its predecessor, Grumpy Old Men. The first two series were narrated by Alison Steadman, and the third by Judith Holder. The show started as a special one-off Christmas special; however, due of popularity, it spawned a regular series, a book, and even a live stage show, which has materialised as being incredibly popular.
The original production of the live show was directed by Chris George, and a mini-tour of seven dates set off in November 2005 to much success.
In the spring of 2006, the original cast (Jenny Ιclair, Dillie Keane and Linda Robson) set off on a 40 date sell out national tour. Following this, they went straight into a four-week West End run at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue. Later that year, the success of the autumn tour with two new recruits Rhona Cameron and Annette Badland, saw the ladies sell out most of their UK dtaes and even venture out to Australia as their first international tour, wandering grumpily into the realm of global phenomenon.
Their second tour, Chin Up Britain, was again hugely successful, holding an eight week run in April-June 2010 at the Novello Theatre in London. Next came Fifty Shades of Beige in 2014/15, and now they return to UK theatres for Grumpy old Women To The Rescue in 2018.
