Oxford United Tickets, Fixtures & Matches in 2024/2025Last Updated: 12 Jan 2023 1:33pm
Oxford United were formed in 1893 as an amateur club called Headington, adding the suffix United in 1911 after merging with Headington Quarry. They were founded by Reverend John Scott-Tucker, the vicar at Saint Andrew's Church in Headington, and a local doctor named Robert Hitchings.
In 1960, Headington United was renamed Oxford United, to give the club a higher profile. Their home ground is the Kassam Stadium in Oxford. The club moved to the stadium in 2001 after leaving the Manor Ground, their home for 76 years. Nicknamed and referred to as The U's to reference the name United, their main rivals are Swindon Town, with Reading as minor rivals. Their only major honour in English football is the League Cup, which they won in the 1985–86 season, defeating Queen's Park Rangers.
