Roberto Carlos is a Brazilian singer songwriter, also known as the King of Latin Music, and simply The King. Considered one of the most influential artists in Brazil during the 1960s, Carlos has sold over 120 million albums around the world.
Influenced by Elvis Presley and the 1950s rock revolution, Carlos rose to stardom as the main figure of the 1950s and 1960s musical movement known as Jovem Guarda (or Young Guard), which was a rip off from a television show.
Despite his first single and album being commercial failures, he invested more time in music and released Splish Splash in 1963 with his friend Erasmo Carlos. They continued to release cover songs together, and the following year the singer was back on the charts with the album 'Is É Proibido Fumar'.
He presented the television show Roberto Carlos à Noite, Opus 7, Jovem Guarda em Alta Tensão and Todos os Jovens do Mundo throughout the 1960s, in partnership with his friend although their relationship was shaken after an argument about credits.
In 1968 the LP 'O Inimitável' was released. A transition record in the singer's career, the album had influences in U.S. soul and funk and scored several hits, like Se Você Pensa, Eu Te Amo, Te Amo, Te Amo, É Meu É Meu É Meu, As Canções que você Fez Pra Mim and more.
He went on to release loads more albums throughout his career, with his latest being 2018's ''Amor Sin Limite'.
