Nel "Wyclef" Jean is a hip hop and reggae artist originally from Croix‑des‑Bouquets, Haiti, but raised in Newark, New Jersey.
Rising to fame as a founding member of Fugees alongside Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel, the band formed in the early 1990s as high school friends, growing to become one the most influential bands of the decade, and one of the biggest-selling hip hop groups of all time. They released two iconic albums—'Blunted On Reality' in 1994 and its Grammy-winning successor 'The Score' in 1996—before disbanding in 2005, with all three members going on to have successful solo careers. Jean put out his debut solo album 'The Carnival' in 1997, and has put out a further five studio records since, with the most recent being 2004's 'Welcome to Haiti: Creole 101'. He has received some of the music industry's highest honours for both his solo endeavours and his work with Fugees, including three Grammys, the NAACP Image Vanguard Award and a Golden Globe nomination. He has also collaborated with the likes of Destiny's Child, Bono, Fall Out Boy, Beverley Knight, Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott, Black Eyed Peas, Travis Barker and Shakira.
