Death Cab for Cutie are an American indie/alternative rock outfit hailing from Bellingham, Washington. Formed in 1997, the band consists of frontman Ben Gibbard, bassist Nick Harmer, and drummer Jason McGerr.
The group originally started as a solo project belonging to their frontman, whilst performing as guitarist in another group. However, having found success under the moniker, DCAC evolved into a fully-fledged band, and soon put out their debut album, 'Something About Airplanes'.
Opting out of being tied to the corporate game, Death Cab For Cutie are rabidly independent. They have acquired a huge cult following through their dedication to touring all over the US, and have also released six studio albums, including their 2008 chart-topper 'Narrow Stairs'.
In March 2015, Death Cab for Cutie returned with their latest offering, 'Kintusgi'. Death Cab played three London shows in June, and four other UK shows in November. 2016 saw them taking on a load of North American tour dates, including some shows alongside Chvrches.
August 2018 saw Death Cab For Cutie return with their next LP, 'Thank You For Today'. After playing Robert Smith's Meltdown Festival, and a handful of headline shows, 2019 will see the band hit up the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand too.

First, some housekeeping. ‘Thank You For Today’ is Death Cab For Cutie’s first recording without guitarist and producer Chris Walla, which is something that could have hung heavy over the release. But to his bandmates’ credit his departure, and the addition of Dave Depper and Zac Rae to the line up, hasn’t sent things into a skid. Here the indie-rock lifers have newfound energy and, as a result, their ninth album is by and large an uplifting experience.
