Anathema are an English rock band from Liverpool, Merseyside, consisting of brothers, Vincent Daniel and Jamie Cavanagh, siblings Lee and John Douglas and Daniel Cardoso.
Formed in 1990, the band released their debut album, ‘Serenades’, in 1993, as a doom metal band, but changed direction to gothic metal for their second release, ‘The Silent Enigma’, in 1995. The band have headlined their own shows and tours across the UK, as well as having supported the likes of HIM. The band returned in March 2015 for a run of UK acoustic shows at cathedrals in Leeds, Exeter, Winchester and Liverpool, before headlining a gig in London the month after.
Anathema returned with 'The Optimist', in summer 2017, and played tour dates spanning across Europe and North America to support it.
