Their history includes being a founding club of the inaugural Football League in 1888. They are also one of only five English clubs to win club football's most prestigious trophy - the European Cup.

Aston Villa's home since 1897 is Villa Park, and their biggest rivals are Birmingham City Football Club. Derived from its name, Aston Villa's most prominent nickname is the Villans.

They have won the Football League First Division seven times, the FA Cup seven times, the League Cup five times, and the European Cup and European (UEFA) Super Cup once.
