Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker is set to record a solo album.

The 42-year old singer was all set to retire from the music biz, so he started writing new songs to see if he was past his best.

He says, "I thought I was gonna retire. I thought I was too old. I'm a man in his forties now.

"I thought that's too old to be doing music and stuff. So as soon as I decided that, I started writing songs - just to fuck myself off.

"I've now got enough songs that are reasonably palatable, so I'm going to record them".
