Dead Young Club II Compilation EP - (EP REVIEW)

On the 17th May, Dead Young Records released a 4 track compilation EP named Dead Young Club II. The EP is available as a limited edition 10” vinyl or by digital download.

Dead Young Records are a Leeds based label currently working with a selection of new up and coming bands, having already released an LP from The Cubical.

The first track on the EP is titled All Y’all, by American rock act Gringo Star. The four piece are famed for their awesome live shows and they have already taken the US by storm. This debut release, produced by Ben H. Allen, who has previously worked with Gnarls Barkley and Animal Collective, is a hook filled, swaggering rock and roll track. Catchy, full of riffs and lovely guitar solos. It is a very good debut release.

Would Be Lovers by The Cubical is a poetic, acoustic track. Recorded at Sunset Sound Studios by Dave Sardy, famed for working with Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones and Oasis. The vocals are dark and talk to you with a rasp, as they narrate the tracks poetical lyrics. Perhaps not a track destined for great things, but a deep, blues filled track all the same.

1268 by Welsh rockers WE//ARE//ANIMAL is a hard hitting catchy rock track. It is a raw; punch you in the face sound, laced with synths, electric guitar riffs and heavy, chanted lyrics. Experimental, awesome and not unlike Kasabian in sound. The drum solo section is fantastic and psychedelic as synths gently play over the drums, before exploding into a synth filled melody. The track rises and falls beautifully throughout. This is an awesome track.

Dementia, Depression, Psychosis, Blues by Paul Thomas Saunders, is a track summed up by its title. The vocals are eerie, one moment a gentle whisper, the next a huge cry for help as they tell a dark, sorrowful tale. The simple, guitar backing and soft percussion adds to the depth and despair of this wonderful arty track.

The 4 track EP is a fantastic display of up and coming talent; tracks 1, 3 and 4 are fantastic and track 2 certainly not bad. There is an upcoming tour featuring all 4 of the groups on the EP coming up soon, details of which are yet to be released.

The limited edition vinyl edition of this EP, for which only 500 were made, comes in a poster wrapped, hand stamped wax sealed record and comes with a personalised insert of one of the participating bands.
