Placebo will celebrate their 30th anniversary with a UK and European tour in the autumn.
The alt-rock band will play shows across mainland Europe from September 28 to November 25, before heading to Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena, Glasgow's OVO Hydro, Dublin's 3Arena, Manchester's Co-op Live, London's OVO Arena Wembley and Cardiff's Utilita Arena between November 28 and December 7.
The shows will see the band performing tracks from their first two albums, 'Placebo' and 'Without You I'm Nothing', including some songs they've havent played live in over 20 years. Tickets go on general sale at 9am GMT/10am CET on March 27.
In addition to the tour, Placebo will celebrate their 1996 debut's three-decade milestone with the June 19 release of 'Placebo RE:CREATED'. The album is a reworking of the self-titled record and will feature new versions of all 10 tracks recreated by vocalist-guitarist Brian Molko and producer Rob Kirwan from the original master tapes, with mixing by Adam Noble, plus two bonus songs. Placebo explained:
"We think of this record as a director’s cut. We haven’t recreated it from scratch. We went back to the original master tapes and brought 30 years of playing these songs live back into the record.
"This project was about finally finishing the record, dragging it into the 21st century sonically, while preserving the integrity and the spirit of the original. It’s not about improving it, there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s about completing it.
"When we made the first album, we didn’t yet have the experience or the studio knowledge to fully translate what was in our heads. Over the years, the songs took on a life of their own on stage; they grew, they developed, they kind of completed themselves.
"It’s a celebration of where we began, and a meeting point between who we were then and who we are now. It’s a way of honouring that innocence, while letting the songs exist with the scale, confidence, and energy of the band we’ve become."
Ahead of the new tour, Placebo will join Garbage for a special Teenage Cancer Trust show at London's Royal Albert Hall on March 28 before heading to Switzerland's Zermatt Unplugged festival on April 11. Tickets for those shows are on sale now.
Placebo released their latest album, 'Never Let Me Go', in 2022, and put out their first live release, 'Collapse Into Never (Live In Europe 2023)', in 2023. The following year they premiered their This Search For Meaning feature-length documentary in cinemas, and last September released it on Blu-ray and DVD, which included two audio CDs of 'This Is What You Wanted – Live In Mexico City'.
