Alesha Dixon'sDrummer Boy may not be the most lyrically astute song ever written, nor a track graced with musical brilliance or vocal excellence, but who cares really?
Drummer Boy is a catchy, good fun pop record, full of marching band drum beats and blasted with Alesha’s unique shouty vocals, which have always had appeal. If the trash that so called pop stars N Dubz and the like record can do well in the charts, then the down to earth Alesha is certainly deserving of success with Drummer Boy.
It is something a bit different, very danceable and ultimately it does what a pop song should do. It makes you feel good. So ok, Drummer Boy is not a classic, it is a decent enough pop track, but in its remixed guises the track actually becomes a selection of pretty good dance tracks. With seven remixes on offer, from the likes of Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup, who recently topped the charts with We Speak No Americano, Benny Benassi and Chicco Secci.
From a hip dance track, from the Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup remix, to a thumping bass filled trance record, from the Benny Benassi remix, to a polished, 80’s synth pop, retro dance track, from Chicco Secci’s Hurricane remix, Drummer Boy is an OK track. Catchy pop or dance floor pleaser? Either way, Alesha has done good and she looks fab in the video too, which was produced by Ray Kay, who has previously worked with Lady GaGa and Cheryl Cole.
