Arcade Fire Score First UK Number One Album

Epic indie group Arcade Fire have fought off tough competition from Eminem to conquer the chart and achieve their first ever UK Number One album.

Releasing their third studio album ‘The Suburbs’ last week (Monday August 2nd), the anticipated album has been received by critics and fans with some fantastic reviews – some claiming that the new material is of the best produced by any band so far this year.

Ok, so the charts are not a clear indication as to how talented a group are these days but having beaten off close rivals Eminem and Lady Gaga, Canadian collective Arcade Fire can proudly boast their first ever UK Number One album whilst up against tough competition.

Stereoboard.com reported last week that the mid-week UK chart figures were indicating Arcade Fire were odds on to claim Number One, even though being closely tailed by Eminem’s new album ‘Recovery’. With the Eminem now falling to Number Two in the UK charts, this will come as a bit of a blow for the rap-star who has also seen his album knocked to Number Two on the stateside chart too, having been knocked down by Avenged Sevenfold.

Will Arcade Fire be able to do the double on both charts? A Number One in the US will be the icing on the cake following their storming success in the UK. Having just announced a five-date arena tour of the UK, the group will be signing off a fantastic year when the tour rolls across the country in December.
