Billy Bragg announces new December tour dates

Folk singer Billy Bragg has announced a series of UK tour dates, which will take place this December.

Earlier this year, Bragg curated his own stage in the Leftfield tent at Glastonbury Festival, which featured sets by artists such as Carl Barat, Reverend and the Makers, the King Blues and Frank Turner. The line-up also included a performance by Bragg himself.

The singer, who is known for his strong political views and activism, was also responsible for putting together a compilation album entitled ‘Breaking Rocks’, which was released in July. Profits from the album went towards Bragg’s own Jail Guitar Doors project – an initiative that helps raise money to buy instruments for prisons, in order to assist with the rehabilitation of inmates. The compilation included contributions from artists including Pete and the Pirates and the Victorian English Gentlemen’s Club. As part of the project, Bragg played live performances inside a number of British prisons. A live recording of one track was taken from one of these shows and included on ‘Breaking Rocks’.

Bragg released his most recent studio album, ‘Mr Love and Justice’, in 2008.

The December tour dates will stop at the following venues:

1st December 2010 Hertfordshire University, Hatfield
2nd December 2010 Nottingham Rock City
4th December 2010 53 Degrees, Preston
5th December 2010 Penrith Leisure Centre
8th December 2010 Norwich UEA
9th December 2010 The Assembly, Leamington Spa
10th December 2010 De La Pavilion, Bexhill On Sea
12th December 2010 Bournemouth O2 Academy
15th December 2010 Troxy, London

Dates for the London date are on sale from 22nd September. All other dates are now on sale.
