Folk-rockers Mumford and Sons have announced they will be hosting a special one-off radio event on BBC Radio 1.
On October 11th, the band will be joined by a host of musical acts including Laura Marling, Bombay Bicycle Club and The Maccabees for Mumford & Sons and Friends. Starting at 7pm, the show will include a three hour concert which will include live performances from all of the artists involved. The event will be hosted by Zane Lowe.
The evening is intended as a celebration of the re-emergence of folk music (coined by some as nu-folk) into mainstream musical culture. Also featuring in the show will be a one-hour documentary, focusing on the new strength and support for folk music, as well as the role that the band themselves have played in the last two years. Fans can apply for free tickets for the small-capacity performance from the BBC Radio 1 website.
Having released only one album, Mumford and Sons have had a chaotic year which has included a worldwide tour and a major slot at this year’s Reading and Leeds festivals. The band are due headline another extensive UK and American tour starting this month, featuring support from Johnny Flynn and Mt. Desolation.
