Slipknot to Headline Sonisphere 2011

Masked metallers Slipknot have announced that they will be headlining next year's Sonisphere festival at Knebworth. The performance will be the band's first UK festival headlining show since Download 2009, which was recently immortalised in the DVD '(sic)nesses'. The announcement is also Slipknot's first confirmed date since the death of bass player Paul Gray in May this year.

Following Gray's death, there has been a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the future of the band. Frontman Corey Taylor, who has been busy touring and recording with his other band Stone Sour, said in an interview in September: "I'm very conflicted about whether or not I want to do anything with Slipknot, because to me, Paul was such an integral part of the band." Fortunately for Slipknot's many fans, it appears that the band's future is far from over.

Sonisphere is due to take place over the weekend of 8-11 July and Slipknot are so far the only band to be confirmed for the festival. More ticket news is expected to be released this week. Keep checking back with Stereoboard for further announcements.

This announcement follows the news of Corey Taylor's first solo single 'X-M@$', which is due to be released on 12th December. A Facebook page has already been set up to try and get the single to Christmas Number One. See below to watch the new video:
