Taylor Swift Keeps Susan Boyle Off The US Christmas Top Spot

British singer Susan Boyle was narrowly kept from earning her second consecutive US Christmas Number One this week, after being knocked off the top spot by Taylor Swift.
The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ star had been set to earn the coveted festive Number One place on the US Billboard chart, having been at Number One for four non-consecutive weeks in the run-up to Christmas with her second album, ‘The Gift’. However, Taylor Swift managed to return to the top spot after a five-week absence, outselling the Scottish singer by only 5,000 copies with her latest album, ‘Speak Now’. It is the third time that Swift’s latest album has been at Number One since its release in late October.
It was believed by many to be a three-horse race as Michael Jackson was set to enter the charts with his posthumously released album, ‘Michael’. However, the album failed to meet record executives predicted sales of 400,000 copies, selling only 228,000 in the first week. Despite the relatively poor American sales, the record managed to top the chart in Germany, The Netherlands, Italy and Sweden.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift will be making a special appearance on the Rachael Ray Show, set to air just after the New Year. In a preview of the show, the Pennsylvanian singer is shown answering audience questions, hugging euphoric fans and generally being treated like a modern day Jesus.
