Shakira Writes Book For Children’s Charity

Monday, 27 December 2010 Written by James Conlon

Popstar extraordinaire Shakira has recently penned a book for a children’s charity, it has been revealed. The Grammy award-winning singer has written a story as part of the popular ‘Dora The Explorer’ series.

Shakira has written a story entitled ‘World School Day Adventure’, which has become the latest publication from the famous Nikelodeon franchise. All proceeds from the book will be donated to the singer’s Pies Descalzos charity, which provides education and other basic needs for children all over the globe. Established in 1995, the charity aims to aid children with nutritious meals, assist in providing a top-quality education and also provides counselling to help unfortunate children break out of the poverty cycle.

Speaking on the project, Shakira said: “I want the children from all over the world to know that through knowledge and education, one can embark on great adventures.” She continued: “Dora is an inspiration for all children in the world. It was an honor working with Nickelodeon to write this story as education is a cause very close to my heart.”

‘World School Day Adventure’ is now available in most bookshops and online retailers.

The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer was also recently commended for her commitment towards the charity sector by being named one of the twenty most charitable celebrities of 2010. The list was compiled by Do Something, a charity which campaigns for teens and social change. Shakira was awarded the Number Eleven spot for her continued efforts towards improving the state of child welfare in her native Columbia.

Topping the list was Lady Gaga, who was commended for her campaigning against the American military ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, as well as her becoming ‘digitally dead’ earlier this month to raise awareness for HIV/Aids in India and Africa.
