Queens Of The Stone Age To Tour Re-Release Of Debut Album?

Josh Homme is not a man who likes the quiet life. Not content with spending part of 2010 touring with supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, he hit the road almost immediately after with his ‘day job’ band Queens Of The Stone Age to promote the re-release of debut album ‘Rated R. Now Homme seems keen to get back on the road again with QOTSA to promote a re-release of their self titled debut album.

On release in 1998 ‘Queens Of The Stone Age’ was the album which won the band their first major record deal and the rest, as they say, is history. Homme agreed a deal tying his own Rekords Rekords label to British based Domino Records paving the way for the record to be re-packaged and re-released with three new tracks. ‘The Bronze’ and ‘These aren’t the Droids Your Looking For’ come from their 1998 ‘Split EP’ while ‘Spiders and Vinegaroons’ is one of the three QOTSA tracks from the Kyuss/QOTSA ‘Split’ which included 3 tracks by each band.

The re-release, due on March 7th, gives a great opportunity for fans that first discovered the band during the ‘Rated R’ or ‘Songs For The Deaf’ period to hear the very earliest sound of the band where the dirty blues and sludgy guitar sound now so identifiable as their own was first launched. The tie-up between the two labels will also see albums from Mini Mansions and Alain Johannes released in May 2011.

Rumours of a new tour come from a Tweet by Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe who announced at the end of last week, "QOTSA to play several shows in special venues across the UK pre-summer to support the re-release of their debut album on Domino Records." He followed up with another tweet giving a little more information but no confirmation, "No further details re QOTSA shows. But they will draw heavily on the debut album. All part of the celebration around the Domino re-release."

As usual, stereoboard.com will have all the latest tour and album release news as it comes.
