Bruno Mars Grateful For Initial Record Deal Flop

Bruno Mars has spoken this week about the relief he feels that his initial venture into the world of music was unsuccessful. The 25-year-old Hawaiian singer moved to California at the age of 18, signing to Motown Records with the hope of breaking into the mainstream market. However, it took Mars seven years to finally pen his own album and achieve the success that he has aspired towards.

He confessed: "I was a little too young. Coming from Hawaii and singing a bunch of cover songs, I didn't realise what it takes to do something like this. I was just blind. Thank God success didn't happen when I was that young."

"I applaud all the young cats who have done it, but I wonder how they handle it at such a young age. I went away and learned to compose a song. I learned how to put my thoughts on a piece of paper and put melody behind it." He continued.

The ‘Grenade’ star also spoke about the personal response that he has been receiving to last year’s debut single, ‘Just The Way You Are’: "Its' a pretty standard love song but a lot of guys can relate to being in that situation. I've had guys come up and tell me it's their wedding song. My lyrics are not the most poetic but they are straight to the point."

Meanwhile, Mars has possibly been letting his new-found fame go to his head, if newspapers are to be believed. According to reports the singer splashed out £12,000 on a bar bill in London earlier this week. The singer was making the most of a night out and is said to have denied members of The Sugababes, The Wanted and even Patrick Vieira (Patrick Vieira!) access to his V.I.P area.
