Deftones Fans Riot After Bangkok Gig Cancellation – Watch Now

Thursday, 17 February 2011 Written by James Conlon

A group of Deftones fans began a riot in Bangkok on Tuesday night (February 15th), protesting after the band decided to cancel a show at the last minute. The band cited ‘electrical problems’ as a cause for the cancellation, which occurred at the 25,000 capacity Thunderdome Arena.

According to reports, the concert was scheduled to start at 8pm (local time), but delays continued until an announcement was made at 9.30pm declaring that the show had been cancelled. After the announcement the majority of the audience went home, but a small contingent remained, breaking windows, smashing hospitality tents and setting fire to beer booths.

No-one is said to have been hurt or injured as a result of the rioting.

The band made an official apology on their Facebook page after the event, saying: “Due to local power issues that threatened the safety of the band and their fans, Deftones were forced to cancel their show last night at the Thunderdome in Bangkok, Thailand. Deftones would like to apologize to those that were inconvenienced and hope to return to Thailand in the near future. Refund info to follow soon.”
